Crush of the Week – Frank Lloyd “Right”
cotw – frank lloyd “right”
We are calling our real estate crush this week Frank Lloyd “Right”. Love him or hate him, Frank Lloyd Wright had some visionary ideas in regards to architecture. In particular, his Usonian homes. His cantilevers also, but the technology wasn’t there yet. This one is FLW done right. It is the essence of organic architecture, where you feel one with nature and the landscape around you. Interior and exterior old-growth redwood siding, Brazilian slate, and cork floors are the texture of the wooded mountaintop the home sits on. The home is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows and doors that keep you in touch with your surroundings at all times, as well as provide easy access to the outside from almost every room.
super crush
Don’t even get me started on the master bathroom. If you’ve been reading these blogs, you know I crush hard on relaxing, spa-like bathrooms. This one provides the ultimate zen-like experience, from the enormous Japanese-style soapstone soaking tub to the warmth of the redwood paneling, to the wall of windows looking out on the courtyard. If that wasn’t enough, there is a heated saltwater pool with bluestone decking, surrounded by two renovated guesthouses with three extra bedrooms. The renovated, eat-in kitchen in the main home is a foodie’s dream with an enormous Wolf gas range and double oven, a wine fridge, a Subzero refrigerator, and custom redwood cabinets. This home offers breathtaking views, complete privacy, & spa-like relaxation – only fifteen minutes from downtown Charlottesville.
rare find
“A rare and significant example of classic midcentury modern architecture featuring one of the area’s most dramatic views— overlooking Charlottesville, and the Ragged and the Blue Ridge Mountains.” Indeed. I have heart eyes right now.
